Busch Gardens in Tampa FL Shuts Down Water Ride over Safety Concerns

Officials in charge of Busch Gardens Tampa, a major animal theme park in Florida, recently made the difficult decision to close down one of the park’s most popular rides. The park will no longer be offering visitors the opportunity to go on the Congo River Rapids ride.

The move to close down the water ride was made in the aftermath of a tragic water park accident in Australia. Four people died while riding on Thunder River Rapids at the Dreamworld park in Queensland’s Gold Coast. The accident occurred when one of the ride’s circular rafts began to spin out of control as it moved down a man-made river and ultimately struck a conveyor belt. The theme park accident victims who died included two males and two females and prompted the immediate shutdown of the park.

Now it turns out that the Busch Gardens Tampa ride is manufactured by the same company that made the Australian water ride, which is why Busch Gardens officials acted quickly once news broke about the fatal accident at the Australian theme park.

A spokesperson for Busch Gardens and Adventure Island in Tampa issued a statement about the ride shutdown. The spokesperson noted that the company is committed to ensuring that guests and employees are safe at all times while inside the theme park.

Although trained safety technicians inspect all of the theme park rides on a daily basis, there is always a chance that something could go wrong.
