Truck Driver Injured in Collision on Florida Turnpike
Two semi-trucks were involved in a scary auto accident on the Florida Turnpike in Port St. Lucie, FL.
The accident occurred around mile marker 149 on the Florida Turnpike, just past the exit for Midway Road. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) dispatched troopers to the accident scene after receiving numerous reports from other motorists.
According to witnesses, a truck hauling lumber and traveling southbound on the highway crashed into the rear of a truck carrying photocopy machines. (The lumber ended up strewn all over the highway as a result of the crash.)
The crash resulted in a massive fire that engulfed a tractor trailer. Despite the best efforts of firefighters to put out the blaze, one of the semi-trucks involved in the accident was reportedly destroyed by the fire.
Thankfully, early reports indicate that there were no major injuries in the frightening rear-end collision. However, one of the truck drivers did reportedly sustain minor injuries that required medical treatment. The injured driver was briefly treated at the scene of the accident by emergency medical crews before being transported to the trauma center at a nearby medical facility.
After the victim was taken to the hospital, crews worked to clear debris remove spilled fuel from the highway. While that work was being done, FHP troopers closed down both the northbound lanes and the southbound lanes on the Florida Turnpike between Okeechobee Road and Port St. Lucie Boulevard. Approximately five hours later, the lanes were reopened.
Depending on the outcome of an investigation into the truck accident, it is possible that the injured motorist may be able to file a personal injury claim and seek compensation for his medical bills, pain and suffering, and other expenses related to the crash. That’s because Florida law allows accident victims to seek damages when a motorist acts negligently and caused a collision.
